Why do i lose my grip in shrugs before the set is over?

When I do shrugs (and some other exercises with heavy weights), my fingers give in long before the set is over. Does this require forearm exercises to fix the problem?

  1. Hey chap,
If anyone tells you to work at it untill your grip catches up, they are wrong.
Use lifting straps on any exercise where your grip is the weak point so the exercise can hit the muscles it is supposed to be hitting.

Work on grip with grip-specific exercises, but don’t hamper your progress by waiting for grip to cartch up, chances are it may never catch up.

Lifting straps are cheap as chips.
An example of lifting straps can be found on the following page.

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Cheers
    Pete
