Why do BodyBuilders get such large Arm Veins?

The veins on their biceps seem to stand out like ropes. Why is this?

  1. This means low % of body fat.. The less body fat you have the more your veins stand out, on areas such as arms that are full of veins this is more noticable :)

  2. Yes, lower body fat helps to show the veins.

In addition to this, advanced level resistance training has the tendency to increase the size and thickness of the circulatory system, including the thickness of the veins, the heart too.

This training effect occurs because when you exercise your muscles with high intensity resistance training, they need a huge volume of blood delivered to them very fast to deal with clearing out metabolic waste products, and providing nutrients to the muscles.

Compare the veins of an endurance athlete who also has low body fat, to a bodybuilder, and you will see the difference in the size of veins that results from the different types of training.

  3. Let’s just say the big rope veins are due to some extra chemicals they are putting into their bodies.

  4. “Extra Chemicals”… B.S. The veins in my arms are some of the largest bulging viens that I have ever seen. I have never used drugs. And anyone who saw me would laugh at the suggestion that I have used drugs to body build. I am not that big. But I do have an extremely low body fat index. Dan Gastelu’s comments were right on. “Chemicals”… uninformed slander.

  5. Both of you are correct. Let me add genetics has large role in this as well. Most of your Pro BB are Genetic freaks along with being lean and blood saturated with EQ(EQUIPOSE).
