What should one eat to build up muscles?

I want to know what should one eat, how much one should eat and when one should eat to grow muscles and bones?

  1. For the most part, it is activity, not diet that builds muscle. Bones are strengthed by weight-bearing exercises such as running and aerobics. While proteins are typically associated with muscle development, the average American diet has well over the recommended .8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. Adding protein to the diet will not stimulate muscles to grow. Only exercise triggers the genes to build more muscle tissue by generating cellular messages that sitmulate DNA to being the process of building up mucscle fibers.
